With over 20 years’ experience in private practice, Scott has been involved in just about every aspect of patent and trade marks attorney work. As the founder of Walker IP, he’s dedicated to bringing a new level of service to the firm’s clients.

Scott is a registered Patent Attorney in both Australia and New Zealand, as well as a registered Trade Marks Attorney in Australia. He holds a Degree in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic), a Diploma of Intellectual Property Practice, and a Master of Intellectual Property Law.

A technology specialist in the area of electrical and electronic engineering, Scott has particular expertise in relation to computer software/hardware based inventions, gaming systems, automotive electrical components, e-commerce, business methods, telecommunications & networking and internet based technologies. Scott also has extensive experience with medical devices and mechanical inventions.

During the early stages of his IP law career, Scott had several years hands-on experience running and maintaining an IT network. Along with this, he’s been involved in the development and maintenance of websites and staff training in IT matters. This hands-on experience is invaluable when dealing with IT related inventions.

Scott worked in the liquor retail industry for over 10 years, focussing on the sale and customer appreciation of wine. His knowledge of running and managing retail businesses is a great asset when drafting and/or prosecuting e-commerce or business method related inventions. This extensive knowledge of the retail industry, particularly the wine industry, is invaluable when assisting brand owners with the registration of food/wine related trade marks.

As a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (FIPTA) and an active member of the Asian Patents Attorneys Association (APAA) and International Trade Mark Association (INTA), Scott regularly travels to conferences & events to maintain his knowledge of the latest developments in local and overseas practice. He also speaks at IP events related to his areas of specialisation.

Outside of the office, Scott enjoys exploring vineyards, attending wine exhibitions, entertaining, cooking, especially Italian and Asian cuisine and travelling. He also enjoys fishing and scuba diving.
